Ms. Severens is an independent art historian and author who has served as a curator of the Greenville County Museum of Art; the Gibbes Museum of Art; and the Portland (Maine) Museum of Art.
About the Permanent Collection
Hickory Museum of Art was founded in 1944 to collect, foster and preserve American art. 8 works were collected that year, and today, 70 years later, the Museum now has approximately 1,500 art objects in the Collection. Major holdings include:

Southern Contemporary Folk Art
The Hickory Museum of Art has over 250 holdings in Southern regional self-taught art, most of which is on view in HMA's long-term interactive exhibition on the third floor, DISCOVER FOLK ART: Unique Visions by Southern Self-Taught Artists.
