Step 1: Supplies
You’ll need the following:
Newspaper
Paper Towels
Food Coloring
Water
Small Containers
Pipe Cleaner
Clothespin
Scissors
Step 2 | Fold Paper Towel
Fold paper towel into multiple sections using whichever shape you prefer. Try both squares and triangles to create unique color patterns.
Step 3 | Create Color PALETTE
Fill small containers with water @ 1/4 full.
Add 2-3 drops of food coloring into container and stir. Repeat for each color you’ve chosen. The color will be darker the more drops you add. You can even mix colors to make new colors for example, red and blue create purple!
Step 4 | Colorize Paper Towel
Take the folded paper towel and quickly dip a corner into colored water. Continue to rotate corners as you deep into each color.
Gently unfold the paper towel and lay it on the newspaper to dry (@30-45 minutes)
Step 5 | Assemble Butterfly
Take the paper towel, pinch in it the middle, and use the clothespin to hold the towel together to create the butterfly wings.
Cut about 4” of the pipe cleaner then slide in through the small space of the clip that’s holding the paper towel.Twist the ends of the pipe cleaner together and shape into antennae.
OR
Use just the pipe cleaner to twist around the middle of the gathered paper towel. The ends can then be shaped into antennae.
