This easy-to-follow art project takes you step-by-step to create beautiful flowers like those found in the paintings of world-renowned artist, Georgia O’Keefe.
Challenge: Fill a vase with a whole bouquet of colorful flowers!
Step 1: Supplies
You’ll need the following:
Washable Markers
Spray Bottle with Water (or Paint Brush and Cup of Water)
Two Coffee Filters per Flower
Pipe Cleaners
Step 2 | Create Color Scheme
Flatten coffee filter and lay it on top of a scrap piece of paper or newspaper so you can color through the edges.
Choose your marker colors. Think about the color wheel and color combinations you want to create.
Using your markers, randomly color the coffee filters until you achieve the color scheme you’ve chosen for your flower.
Step 3 | Blend Colors with Water
Take your paint brush and water (or spray bottle with water) and wet the coffee filter.
The color should start to blend as you work the water into your design.
Allow to dry for 30 minutes or more.
Step 4 | Form Flower
Once your coffee filters are dry, stack two filters together.
Pinch from the outside towards the center to gather the coffee filter.
Step 5 | Add Flower Stem
Now, take one of your pipe cleaners and bend one end to look like a hook.
Take that hook and put it around the top part of the coffee filter you have gathered and twist it together.
Pull your coffee filters toward the center to the desired shape.
Wrap remaining pipe cleaner around the bottom of the flower.
